Walled City of Lahore Authority WCLA Jobs 2024: Apply Online
About the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA)
The historical journey of Walled City Lahore is rich and diverse. From its origins as the birthplace of Prince Loh to its transformation into Brahmanabad city, the city witnessed various invasions and rulers.
Subuktagin invaded, Mahmood of Ghazna captured it, Shahb ud din Ghauri conquered it, and it endured turmoil under Mongol raids. It remained under the reigns of the Khiljis, Tughlaqs, and Lodhi dynasties.
However, it was during the illustrious Mughal era that Walled City Lahore reached its pinnacle. Emperor Akbar played a pivotal role by reconstructing the mud fort from the Ghaznavid period using burnt bricks and enhancing it with thirteen gates linked by a formidable thirty-foot-high fortified wall.
Among the gates were renowned names like Delhi Gate, Yakki Gate, Sheranwala Gate, Kashmiri Gate, Masti Gate, Roshnai Gate, Lohari Gate, Bhatti Gate, Shah Almi Gate, Akbari Gate, Mochi Gate, and Taxali Gate, complemented by a Mori.
The Mughals erected grand mosques such as Mariam Zamani Mosque, Wazir Khan Mosque, Taxali Mosque, and the magnificent Badshahi Mosque, alongside numerous other structures, all of which continue to grace the landscape of the walled city of Lahore.
